The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Srinagar is a voluntary association of practising Lawyers. The office bearers of Association are elected every year by way of a secret ballot and election is held by an independent election commission, the chief election commissioner takes charge of every task related to the conduct of elections before a prescribed period from the elections. SHOPIAN TRAGEDY: PRELIMINARY REPORT

On 30 th of May Saturday 2009, in the morning, a news spread throughout the valley that at Shopian on the banks of Rambi-ara two dead bodies of one Nelofar and Asiya were found and it was reported in the electronic media that before their death the victims have been gang raped. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association contacted its sources at Shopian to obtain the information about the incident.On the basis of the concrete information and factual data about the incident the Bar Association felt a serious criminal act has been committed. JAIL VISIT REPORT (TIHAR JAIL) (NEW)

In pursuance to the orders of the Hon’ble High Court passed on 01-01-2010, an 8 member team of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, headed by Mr. Mian Abdul Qayoom,visited Tihar Jail New Delhi, from 27-01-2010 to 29-01-2010 and met the Kashmir prisoners lodged over there. Doodipora is a small village, which is 6 kms away from Handwara Town. There is only one road, which connects the village with Handwara town. There are about 70 houses in the village wherein some 600 people reside. There are two schools in the village. One Government Middle School and the other Public Model School run by the locals.

Mr, Ghulam Mohammad Shakir (Wani), Advocate is a prominent lawyers affiliated with the J&K High Court Bar Association since 1994 and at present is a part time lecturer in department of Law University of Kashmir and is teaching Islamic Laws with preference in the department.
